I have very much enjoyed this daily devotional. It is centered on Christ, each item is brief, instructive and encouraging. I have read Streams in the Desert and My Utmost for His Highest, and I believe this to be entirely of the same quality - perhaps better. This is an overlooked gem. This helped to balance some of my contemporary feel-good devotionals. Sobering in places but very informative.
I am sure this is a superb book, but as a senior my eyes found the printing extremely light and therefore burdensome to read. I would love this book, I am sure, if it had darker printing, but as it was, I gave it to a friend with hopefully better eyes.
The usual teaching in modern churches is very good, but lacks the depth of previous pastors and teachers. AB Simpson is had a life changing experience with Jesus Christ which transformed his ministry from the ordinary (which is very good) to an outstanding movement of God in the lives of people around the world. This daily devotional is both a good introduction and a spiritual challenge to Christians and non Christians alike. T get the most out of it one must read and think and go to the Bible.
I would summarize the authors approach to scripture as an cave to be mined for jewels to be worn. He is on an overt search for the promises of God to decorate his life with riches that cannot be earned but can be claimed.
Simpson was a spiritual man and his writing deserves a better representation than is provided in the Createspace edition --5 copies purchased May 2017. He writes from the heart for the heart, but one gets the impression that the publisher cares little about readability. The print is clear but relatively faint--consistent, but only about 8 point at best.
The language of this devotion is antiquated, but the message that comes through, if one will just make the effort to understand some of the older terminology, imparts valuable lessons to the reader. And some of the older terminology, which has fallen out of favor, even in our churches, because it is no longer PC, is a reminder that sin is still sin. Thankfully, Jesus is the answer to our sin, delivering us from it!
This daily devotional takes you to higher levels of spiritual thought. Year after year it will guide you and lift you to new heights. We are all on the same path but different on the inside and you will become internally heartfelt satisfied knowing this daily. Not a disappointing read in the whole volume. If you prayed for the next step higher this book is the answer to those prayers.
